Behavioral Health Intervention Services (BHIS) are supportive, directive and teaching
interventions provided in a community-based or residential group care environment designed
to improve the individualís level of functioning as it relates to a mental illness,
with a primary goal of assisting the individual and his or her family to learn age-appropriate
skills to manage their behavior, and regain or retain self-control.
BHIS provide intensive skill development, counseling and referral services to families who are experiencing challenges with their childís disruptive behaviors connected to mental health needs. Services address behaviors like aggressiveness, poor communication or poor social skills' that can impact your child's success in school, at home and in their community. BHIS are managed by Magellan Behavioral Care of Iowa; therefore, the child must be on Title 19 insurance, and services must be pre-authorized by Magellan.
